Gail Black

Gail Black, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, in Piedmont, SC, surrounded by the warmth of her family. Born on January 25, 1949, in Greenville, SC, Gail's life was a testament to her intelligence, loving nature, and deep-rooted faith.

Gail, as she was affectionately known, dedicated 25 years of her professional life as an Office Manager at K & S Crane Rental & Steel Erection. Her commitment to her work was paralleled only by her devotion to her family.

A fan of muscle cars, she and her husband met while street racing. She married at the age of 16 on August 12, 1965. She was a woman of fashion, and had an appreciation for all things bright and beautiful. She loved creating cakes for other's special events and loved to see them be enjoyed. Crafting was a passion of hers, especially jewelry, making, stained glass designs and crocheting. Despite losing her sight earlier than most and suffering from various health issues, she remained resilient in her love for family, humor, and creativity. She had a zeal for life and loved her God, Jehovah, remaining active in her ministry through every stage of life.

Gail's family was the cornerstone of her life. Gail is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Addie "Betty" Gray; her husband, Donald S Black; and her son Patrick S Black (Francis "Peanut" Black). She is survived by her brother, Michael K Gray and his wife Gina Gray; her loving children, Gwendolyn A Black, Crystal C Black, and Joseph S Plumley with his wife Sierra M Plumley. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Joshua A Plumley, Christopher T Lollis, Levi (aka Samuel Brubaker), M Chandler Black, Harley C Cromer with spouse R Nelson Cromer, Savannah A Fletcher, and Destynee G Fletcher, as well as her adored great-grandchildren Bonnie J Plumley, Clyde S Plumley, and J Sawyer Plumley. 

Gail's life was a living example of her intelligence and loving nature. Her faith-filled presence will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit, characterized by her generosity and kindness, will continue to inspire her family and friends. Gail's memory will be cherished and celebrated, as she leaves behind a legacy of love that will endure through the generations.

3pm Sunday, November 16, 2025 at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses 105 Reid Rd. Piedmont, SC 29673.
