Gail Hipp Kendall passed away on July 30, 2025 after living a full, independent 94 years. Full of love and joie de vivre, she touched the lives of all who knew her. She lived her faith and was a source of guidance, joy, fun and wisdom for all who shared time with her. She loved people, cooking, and animals, particularly cats.

Born in rural Spartanburg County in her grandparent’s home in Woodruff, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Henrietta Hipp. She graduated from Woodruff High School, and then completed her Bachelor’s in Education from Winthrop College, during which time she met her husband of 56 years, James E. Kendall. They remained in Rock Hill, where they were active members of Oakland Baptist Church. Gail’s 30-year teaching career included completion of her Master’s in Education and teaching positions at Rock Hill High School, York High School, and York Technical College. In 2013, she moved to Greenville, not too far from her childhood home, and continued to enjoy life to the fullest.

Gail was predeceased by her husband James E. Kendall and her sister Nancy Phelps. She is survived by her daughter Amy Robichaud (Martial), her son Jim Kendall, granddaughter Natalie Robichaud, grandson Will Robichaud (Alexandra), beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her warmth and generosity.

Gail’s life will be celebrated in Rock Hill and in Greenville at gatherings to be announced in the near future.
