Gary Francis Sarmento passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025, in Simpsonville, South Carolina. Born on March 28, 1955, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Gary's life was a testament to the enduring power of love, dedication, and service.
Gary grew up in a close-knit family, the beloved son of Emidio and Donna Patricia Jenkins Sarmento, both of whom predeceased him, as did his brother William G. Sarmento. He is survived by his brother Raymond A. Sarmento and his wife Beth, his nephew Collins Sarmento and his wife Stephanie, his great-nephews Henry and Archer Sarmento, his niece Sarah Grace Canaday and her husband Allen, and his great-niece and nephew, Collins and Thomas Canaday. His devoted wife of 36 years, Lynn McGarity Sarmento, and his sister-in-laws Ann McGarity and Melody Sarmento.
Gary's educational journey at St. Vincent's College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, laid the foundation for a career marked by dedication and excellence. A few years later, he joined Teleco, where he would remain for 36 years until his retirement in 2023. His colleagues remember him as a mentor and leader, always ready to lend a hand or share a kind word.
Throughout his life, Gary's amiable nature drew people to him. He was the kind of person who remembered names, asked about your family, and genuinely listened to the answers. His intelligence was not just academic; it was emotional and social, allowing him to navigate complex situations with grace and to solve problems with creativity.
In the quiet moments, we will remember Gary's humor, his zest for life, and the warmth of his presence. His story is one of a life filled with purpose, connection, and love—a story that does not end with his passing but continues in the lives of those he touched. Gary Francis Sarmento will be profoundly missed, but the light he brought into this world will never fade.
