Gary Wayne Woods, known affectionately by many as GW, passed away on July 14, 2026, in Greenville, South Carolina, at the age of 75.
Born on December 28, 1950, in Greenville, South Carolina, GW lived a life rooted in the same community he loved and served throughout his years. He was the son of the late Elizabeth Woods Chambers and Milford Woods, and he carried forward the values of hard work, loyalty, and good humor that were evident to all who knew him. Those who were fortunate enough to spend time with him remember a man who was funny, friendly, and always interesting, with a personality that could brighten a room and a presence that made people feel welcome.
GW was the proud owner of Quality Transmissions in Greenville, where he built a respected career through dedication, skill, and a strong work ethic. His business was more than a livelihood. It was a reflection of who he was, and he earned the trust of customers, friends, and colleagues through honesty and dependable service. He took pride in his work and in the relationships he formed along the way, and his name became associated with integrity and experience in the community he called home.
Outside of work, GW found joy in racing and cars, interests that brought him excitement and lifelong enthusiasm. He appreciated the sound, speed, and craftsmanship of automobiles, and those passions were part of what made him so memorable to others. Whether he was talking about engines, sharing a story, or enjoying time with family and friends, he brought energy and character to every conversation. His sense of humor and easygoing nature made him a pleasure to be around, and his stories and laughter will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
Family was central to GW’s life, and he cherished the people who surrounded him. He is survived by his daughter, Kim Searcy and husband Thomas, his son Greg Woods and his wife Casey King Woods and daughter Kristen Long and husband Jeff. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Kelsey Woods and Zach Sims, Hunter Searcy and Baileigh Good, Keira Long, Colton Searcy, Caroline Searcy, and Brynley Woods. He is also survived by his step-sister, Sarah “Sissie” Chambers, and his cousins, Waynette Wilson, Skip Moellman, Jeff Moellman, and Lee Mullinax. GW held a special place in his heart for each member of his family, and he took great pride in the bonds they shared.
In addition to his immediate family, GW was supported and remembered by many who valued his friendship and companionship over the years. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanne Lynch Woods, whose memory remained an important part of his life. The love and partnership they shared were a meaningful chapter in his journey, and her passing was felt deeply by him and those around him. He also leaves behind cherished memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
The family extends special thanks to Elmer Sprouse for the kindness and support shown to GW and his loved ones. That care and friendship were deeply appreciated and will not be forgotten.
GW’s life was one of hard work, humor, and devotion to the people and passions that mattered most to him. He will be remembered for his warm personality, his practical wisdom, and the many ways he made life better for those around him. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout Greenville and beyond.
