Gilbert Eddy Anderson September 4, 1949 - March 10, 2026 Gilbert Eddy Anderson “Gib” passed to heaven peacefully on March 10, 2026, in Columbia, South Carolina. He was born September 4,1949, in Washington D.C. to Gilbert and Beulah (Eddy) Anderson. Gilbert “Gib” was the oldest of three kids.

He grew up in Arlington, Virginia, along with his younger brother, Jim, and sister, Berta. Gib was in scouting for many years and eventually became an eagle scout. He graduated with honors from Washington-Lee High School in 1967 and went on to William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he majored in Biology. He then attended Duke University where he earned his masters in Biology and became a Biology Professor at the University of South Carolina, where he taught biology, anatomy and physiology. He went on to teach at Morris College and Newberry College, in South Carolina. For those who knew Gib, he was always willing to mentor students until they had a full understanding of the material. He truly loved teaching.

First of all, Gib loved the Lord and acknowledged his faith as a believer in Jesus Christ. Many times he would discuss with family about a recent service he attended and the songs they sang. Music was important to him. Gib loved people and often would carry his camera with him to capture special moments of students playing sports and in the classroom. He continued to develop his photography skills over the years. His next love was meeting with family and friends around good food, like seafood and Chinese. He loved family reunions where he could laugh and enjoy their company.

Gib was proceeded in death by his father and mother, Gilbert and Beulah Anderson of Arlington, Virginia and brother-in-law, Mike Irwin of Maryville, Tennessee. Gib is survived by his brother, Jim (Amy) Anderson, sister, Berta Irwin, niece, Beth (Adam) Fletcher, nephew, James Michael (Josi) Irwin, several other cousins, nieces and nephews and his best friend, Rubin Martin, who was always there for him. He will also be missed by his friends at the Life Care Center in Columbia, where he lived for the last several years

The family will have a private service for Gib at a later date.
