Listen to Obituary

Gilbert "Gil" Hernandez, a cherished father, husband, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on January 2,1934, to Elena Reyes and Jesus Hernandez, Gil's life was a testament to his faith-filled spirit, passionate heart, and unwavering generosity.

Gil proudly served his country as an Army veteran before dedicating 21 years of his life as a missionary in Mexico, as well as over 30 years as a Community Service Officer for the Fresno Police Department. His commitment to service did not end with his professional career; Gil was also a fervent volunteer at his church, where he found great joy in studying the Bible and helping others.

An avid Ham Radio Operator, a flight instructor, and a skilled ventriloquist, Gil's interests were as vast as his generosity. His love for travel was only matched by his love for his family. Gil was a devoted family man, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his loving wife, Angelina Ocampo, and his children, Lorinda (Gene), Mark, Carmen (Enrique), and Joel Hernandez (Amy). Gil was a proud patriarch to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will miss his humor, his magic tricks, and his generosity.

Gil was predeceased by his first wife, Thelma Hernandez, the mother of his children, his parents, Elena and Jesus, and his brother Jesse Hernandez. He is also survived by his siblings Maryann Meza, Alex Hernandez, Marg Piland, and Lindy Menseniga, who will fondly remember their brother's unwavering support and fatherly role in their lives.

Gil's life was a beacon of hope and a model of selfless service. His passion for life and the way he treated everyone with dignity left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was a man of deep faith, and his commitment to his beliefs was evident in every aspect of his life. Gil's presence will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

As we bid farewell to Gilbert Hernandez, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with grace. His story does not end here, for his legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched through his work and volunteerism. Gil's life was a testament to the power of kindness, the strength of faith, and the joy of giving. Rest in peace, dear Gil, until we meet again.
