March 7, 1933 — March 25, 2024

Harold Talmadge Mahaffey (The Legend), affectionately known as Tibb to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2024, in Taylors, SC, at the age of 91. Born on March 7, 1933, in Greenville, SC, Tibb was a man of great humor, wisdom, and generosity. His life was a testament to the love and joy he brought to all who knew him.

Tibb's journey began in the heart of South Carolina, where he grew up surrounded by the warmth of his family. Although he bid farewell to his beloved wife Shirley Rachel Mahaffey, his sons Leon and Harold Mahaffey, his granddaughter Latasha McCalister, and his siblings Duck, Roy, Tom, Meryl, and Vivian, he continued to be a source of strength and love for his surviving family members. Tib found love again with his wife Gordana Mahaffey, and together they shared many cherished moments. His legacy lives on through his daughters Tamara Reynolds, Gail Bradberry, Lynn Powell, Anna Bowers, and Milica Micovic, who will remember him as a devoted father and role model. Also survived by his brother Clifford Mahaffey, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A man dedicated to his community, Tib spent many years as a maintenance worker for the Greenville County School District until his retirement. His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his involvement in various associations, where he made lasting contributions and formed enduring friendships.

Tib was a man of the outdoors, finding solace in the tranquility of hunting and fishing. He had a deep appreciation for nature and the simple pleasures of life. Yet, it was the time spent with his family that Tib cherished most. Whether reading a book or sharing stories, his presence was a comfort to those around him. His ability to make others laugh, coupled with his sage advice, made him a father figure to many beyond his own kin.

Those who knew Tibb will remember him as a man who lived his life with a generous spirit. He approached each day with a sense of humor that was contagious, and his wise counsel was sought by many. Tib's generosity knew no bounds, and his door was always open to friends and strangers alike.
