Henry Milton Spann, 89, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, in Greenville, S.C. He was a loving and devoted father to two daughters whom he cherished.
Born and raised in Greenville on February 22, 1937, Henry was the son of the late Benjamin Mabry Spann and Lucille Hollis Spann. He grew up alongside his beloved older brother, the late Donald “Don” Carroll Spann, and attended Augusta Circle Elementary, Greenville Junior High, and Greenville Senior High Schools.
After graduating from the University of South Carolina, Henry served our country as a United States Marine Corps fighter pilot as well as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. He considered his years in the Marine Corps and the men he served with in combat as the most admirable group of people in his life, comparable only to his most cherished lifelong friends from his childhood and several amazing friends from his later adult life.
Henry had a strong sense of humor and was a collector of hobbies and had many talents: painting, carving, horseback riding, drawing, playing piano, aerial photography, aviation, motorcycles, cooking, and, of course telling funny stories and jokes.
He spent the last 52 years in Greenville as a commercial real estate broker and subdivision developer.
He is survived by two daughters - Lisa Spann Crosby of Greenville, SC and her son Aaron Crosby (Halah) of Bluffton, S.C. and great-granddaughter Lily; daughter Elaine Mabry Bland (Jeff) of Irmo, SC and their three children, Ava, Elizabeth, and Wyatt. Henry was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren.
A private military burial will be held at the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, SC at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Henry’s honor to Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. Semper Fi
