Howard Wilbur Brown, 97, died November 6, 2014 at his home in Greenville, SC. Mr. Brown is the beloved husband of the late Grace Anna (WILSON) Brown.

Born on March 5, 1917 at his parents' home in West Liberty, Maryland, he was the 2nd of 6 children of the late John Isaac Brown Sr. and late Florence Marie (FORD) Brown.

Mr. Brown worked for the Baltimore Transit Company prior to serving his country during World War II. He served as a Sergeant in an Army Ordnance attached to the Army Air Force Technical Training Command at Buckley Field in Denver, Colorado. After his discharge from the Army, he worked for the Baltimore Gas & Electric Co for 28 years until his retirement. During his lifetime, he had an insatiable love for writing which he exhibited in his published religious, patriotic, and social articles while serving his country. He wrote a column called "Chatter Boxing" which ran weekly for 26 years in Baltimore's Jeffersonian paper. He and his wife moved to Greenville, SC in 2001 to live with their son and daughter-in-law.

He is survived by one brother Evans Murphy Brown of Westminster, MD, two sons, Gregory Donn Brown of Greenville, SC, and Gene Wilbur Brown of Lee's Summit, MO; three grandchildren Matthew Chandler Brown of Charlotte, NC, Dr. Alexander DeVries Brown of Lexington, KY, and Amanda Cruikshank (BROWN) Kelley of Greenville, SC; six great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Marie Brown, Lauryn Grace Brown, and Dylan Chandler Brown of Charlotte, NC, Annelise DeVries Brown, and Hudson Alexander Brown of Lexington, KY, and Victoria Evelyn Ann Kelley of Greenville, SC, and many nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by three brothers, William Walter Brown, John Isaac Brown Jr., Leslie Rush Brown, and one sister, Helen Marie (BROWN) Tracey.

A memorial service, yet to be planned, will be held and his ashes interred at the Columbarium of The Church of the Redeemer, 5603 North Charles St, Baltimore, Maryland, which is the church where he and his wife were members prior to coming to South Carolina.
