In Loving Memory of Ida Mae Brunson

Ida Mae Brunson, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, at the age of 76.

Born in Greenville, South Carolina, on August 27, 1948, Ida was the cherished daughter of Janie and stepfather, Sammie Fant. During her early years, she spent time between Greenville and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, eventually graduating from J.E. Beck High School in Greenville, SC, in 1967. She later returned to Pittsburgh, where she met and married Gregory Lewis. Together, they raised four children and, although their marriage ended, they remained lifelong friends and supportive co-parents.

A woman of resilience and quiet strength, Ida held a position as a union worker at the Volkswagen company before returning to school to pursue her passion for healthcare. She earned her degree and worked as a dedicated phlebotomist at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. In 2005, she returned to her hometown of Greenville, South Carolina, where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Ida was a devoted member of the Love Story Church community and found great joy as a member of the Life Group Circle Ministry and Women of Faith. She also served as a greeter and contributed to the Outreach Ministry. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and her church became a second home where she formed deep and lasting friendships. She will be remembered for her kindness, her faith, and her unwavering love for her family.

Her children survive her: LaNeeta Lewis-Berry, Shannon Lewis-Thomas, TerrelleLewis(Joanette), and Eric Lewis(Pettrice); and her grandchildren: LaTaesa Jackson, Aatika Berry, Shayaa Berry, Imani Batts, Neo Lewis, Lorne Rash, Adina Rash, Breah Young, and Justice Young. Great-grandchildren: Bryson Glover and Leilani Young. She also leaves behind her siblings: Mildred Wilson, Harold Brunson, Peggy Rucker, and Todd Fant, and her beloved nieces and nephews: Andre Dandy, Kenya Ford, Jayma Arnold, Kiundra Rucker, Harold Brunson Jr, Melanie Carter, and a host of great nieces and nephews.

Ida was preceded in death by her parents, Janie and Sammie Fant; her granddaughter, Nia Rash; and her nephew Ramont Rosemond.

Her life was a testament to perseverance, faith, and deep love. Ida Mae Brunson will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
