Ima Jean Tyler, a beloved mother, grandmother, and spirited member of her community, passed away on March 25, 2026, in Taylors, South Carolina. Born on March 9, 1941, in Iron City, Georgia, Ima Jean lived a full and vibrant life marked by kindness, creativity, and unwavering optimism.

Ima Jean dedicated many years of her life to her career as a receiving manager at Bi-Lo, where she worked diligently until the remarkable age of 79. Her work ethic was matched by her sassy and funny personality, traits that endeared her to colleagues and friends alike. Her thoughtful and loving nature extended beyond the workplace into every facet of her life.

A proud member of Living Branch Ministries, Ima Jean was deeply involved in her church community. She found great joy and solace in her faith and actively participated in numerous church activities. Beyond her devotion to spiritual service, Ima Jean’s hobbies revealed her nurturing spirit and zest for life. She was passionate about gardening, cooking, tending to her flowers, and delighting in feeding her cherished hummingbirds. These interests reflected her innate creativity and her love for the simple yet beautiful pleasures of everyday life.

Ima Jean’s family was the heart of her world. She is survived by her daughters Hope Sanchez (and Curtis Murphy), Sebrina Westmoreland, and Sasha Cherie, who carry forward her legacy of strength and love. She also leaves behind several grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, each a testament to her enduring influence and affection. Ima Jean was predeceased by her parents, Lena and Emmett Braswell, daughter; Dorethea Barrett, as well as her siblings; Gary, Tina, Travis, Glenda, and Joy.  

Her passing is mourned by those who knew her well and loved her deeply. Those who were fortunate enough to share in her life remember her as a spirited and optimistic individual whose thoughtful guidance and loving presence made a lasting impact. Ima Jean Tyler’s memory will continue to bloom in the gardens of her family’s hearts, much like the flowers she so tenderly cared for.

In celebrating Ima Jean’s life, family, friends, and community honor a woman whose spirit was as vibrant as the hummingbirds she loved to feed and whose legacy of love and dedication remains a guiding light for all who knew her. 

A service will be announced for Ima Jean at a later date.
