James M. Garrett, known to many simply as James, passed away on July 4, 2026, in Greenville, South Carolina, at the age of 54. Born on June 8, 1972, in Greenville, he spent his life rooted in the community he called home and surrounded by the people and places he loved most.

James will be remembered as a loving, funny, and gentle man whose presence brought comfort and warmth to those around him. He had a quiet strength and a kind spirit that made him easy to know and difficult to forget. Whether he was sharing a laugh, lending a hand, or simply spending time with family, James had a way of making others feel welcome and valued. His life was defined by the love he gave freely and the steady, dependable way he carried himself each day.

He loved the outdoors and found peace in being outside, where he could enjoy the fresh air and the simple beauty of nature. He also enjoyed working on vehicles, a pastime that reflected both his practical nature and his appreciation for hands-on work. Painting gave him another outlet for expression, while shooting pool provided moments of enjoyment and friendly competition. Above all else, he cherished being with family, and those times together were among the most meaningful parts of his life. He also enjoyed collecting quarters, a hobby that reflected his eye for detail and his enjoyment of small treasures with special meaning.

James is survived by his daughter, Madeline Garrett, and his son, Blake Garrett, both of whom brought great pride and joy to his life. He is also survived by his sisters, Andrea Bookout and her husband David, Tonya Bruton and her husband Todd, Lillian Sparks, Lynn Sparks, Marie Sparks, and Kim Martinez and her husband Mike. He leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward, including Ethan Bissette, Dawson Bookout, Elizabeth Reeves, Mackenzie Ard, and Hayden Moore. He is also remembered by his cousin, Ashley Scott and Brother-In Law Billie McCurdy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Garrett; his mother, Lillian Garrett; and his sister, Stella Sparks. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life, and now he is reunited with them in eternal rest.

James’s family and friends will remember him for his loving nature, his sense of humor, and the gentle way he moved through life. He valued family deeply and understood the importance of togetherness, loyalty, and kindness. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, in the stories shared about him, and in the many moments of laughter and love that he leaves behind.

Though his time on earth has come to an end, the impact of James M. Garrett’s life will remain with those who loved him. He will be remembered not only for the years he lived, but for the way he lived them with warmth, humor, and grace.
