James Joseph Lowe (“Jim”), a devoted father and grandfather, loving husband, and cherished friend, passed away on December 5, 2025 at the age of 79. Born in Akron, Ohio, Jim’s life was a testament to his unwavering support and dedication to his family and friends, always prioritizing their needs above his own.

Jim is survived by his daughter Jennifer Smuniewski (Kevin), and his son Michael Lowe (Jessica). He is the proud grandfather of Brooklynn, Kennedy, and James Lowe, all of whom carry on his legacy of kindness, love, and passion for sports. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Toni Jean Lowe, and his parents, Harold and Anne Lowe.

Following in the footsteps of his father, who fought in World War II and survived six months as a prisoner of war (POW), Jim proudly served in the U.S. Army, a demonstration of his sense of hard work, dedication, and love of his country. Upon completing his military service, Jim embarked on a successful career in computers as a Technical Support Engineer across BF Goodrich, Michelin, IBM, and others for more than 45 years. During that span he earned a Bachelor of Science in Technical Education from the University of Akron.

Jim was a committed professional, but his true joy came from spending time with his family, friends, and helping others. He dedicated his time to coaching multiple youth sports teams that his children participated in while they were growing up. He volunteered for various organizations, including Meals on Wheels, exemplifying his selfless spirit and generosity. His kindness resonated throughout the neighborhood, where he was loved and respected by all those who knew him.

Jim had a wide range of interests that enriched his life and those around him. He was passionate about the outdoors and all sports, especially Clemson football, the Cleveland Browns, and the Cleveland Guardians. He also loved and cared for animals, with rescue dogs holding a special place in his heart. Over the course of his life, Jim and his family adopted and cared for six dogs, all of which were incredibly spoiled. However, his most cherished time was spent playing games and spending time with his grandchildren, Brooklynn, Kennedy, and James Lowe, whom he loved with all his heart.

Jim leaves an enduring mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a remarkable testament to the values he held dear, and his memory will never stop inspiring those who loved him.

A celebration of Jim’s life will take place at 10:00 am on Friday, 19 December at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Simpsonville, SC. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Greenville County Animal Care.
