James Vance McCraw II, known affectionately as Vance to his friends and family, passed away on May 6, 2025, at the age of 46. Born on September 27, 1978, in Atlanta, GA, Vance was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew him. He departed this world in Spartanburg, SC, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and generosity.
Vance was the cherished son of Janet Wingler and Monte McCraw, a beloved husband to Deanna McCraw, and a devoted father to his children, Lyle, Austin, Landon, Sophie, and Sara. His role as a brother to Adam and Megan was filled with laughter and support, and he was an adored uncle to many nieces and nephews. His grandchildren, Aubree and Luke, were the apples of his eye, and he reveled in every moment spent with them. Vance's love for his family was matched only by his love for his furry companions, Honey and Bailey, who were constant sources of comfort and joy.
Vance's academic pursuits led him to earn an Associate of Science in Computer and Information Science, a field in which he excelled and used his knowledge to help others. His professional life was marked by a successful career as a medical sales representative, where he was known for his integrity and dedication. Vance's commitment to service extended beyond his professional life as he was an organ donor and an active participant in missionary trips, touching lives and making a difference in communities far and wide.
A man of deep faith, Vance lived his life as a testament to his love for Christ. He was a pillar in his church community, often leading by example and encouraging others to live a life of purpose and faith. His wisdom and generosity were evident in every interaction, and he was often sought out for guidance by those who knew him.
Vance's interests were a reflection of his vibrant personality. An avid fan of the Kentucky Wildcats, he bled blue and celebrated every victory with the same passion he brought to all aspects of his life. His love for all things Kentucky was infectious, and he enjoyed sharing this love with anyone willing to listen. Vance was also a master of the smoker, delighting family and friends with his culinary creations. His Tuesday night hockey games were a source of camaraderie and fun, a weekly tradition he looked forward to with great anticipation.
To say Vance was wise, generous, and faith-filled is to capture only a glimpse of the man he was. His presence was a comfort, his laughter a melody, and his guidance a compass for those fortunate enough to cross his path. Vance's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to his beliefs.
As we bid farewell to James Vance McCraw II, we celebrate the extraordinary life he led and the countless ways he enriched our lives. Vance's journey on earth may have ended, but his legacy will live on, a testament to a life well-lived and a man well-loved.
A special note from Vance: "My name is Vance. I am chosen, faithful, kind, generous, compassionate, and loving. I will be the husband and father God created me to be and take back the ground the enemy is trying to steal from myself and my family.
