Listen to Obituary

James "Clay" Mill, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully after a long battle with kidney cancer on December 11, 2025, in Taylors, SC, at the age of 73. Born on August 8, 1952, in Richmond, VA, to the late Helen Edgerton Mill and John Mill, Clay was a man whose life was marked by a deep love for his family, a passion for the outdoors, and an unwavering faith.

Clay grew up in a lively household with his siblings, Roxanne Richard, Rick Mill, Randy Mill and the late David Mill.  After attending the University of South Carolina Banking School, Clay embarked on a 10 year career in banking before switching career paths to Duke Power, where he dedicated 18 years of tenure.

In his personal life, Clay was a Christian who lived his faith through his actions and interactions with others. He found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid tennis player, he enjoyed the outdoors, live music, and relaxing at the beach.

He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Griffin Mill, with whom he shared a beautiful and enduring marriage of 49 years. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Whitney (Tapley) Strossner and Brent Mill, who were the pride and joy of Clay's life. His role as a grandfather to Myla and Wyatt Strossner was one he embraced with enthusiasm, always ready with a hug or a word of encouragement.

Clay's friendly and adventurous spirit made him a beloved figure in his community. He was the kind of person who never met a stranger and whose presence could light up a room. His loving nature was a constant source of comfort and strength to his family and friends.

His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his stories will be told for generations to come. Clay's journey on this earth may have come to an end, but the impact of his life will be felt forever. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
