James C. Morris, known affectionately as Jim to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025, in Simpsonville, SC, at the age of 84. Born on April 17, 1941, in Miami, FL, Jim was a man whose life was marked by a deep love for his family, a steadfast faith, and a generous spirit that touched all who knew him.
Jim's journey began as the cherished son of the late Mary D. Morris and Henry Morris, and he grew up alongside his loving sister Mary Bell and his late brother Robert Morris. Growing up at Thornwell Orphanage, his childhood was filled with the warmth of family and the beginning of lifelong passions. At Thornwell, Jim's heart found its match in the late Jenny M. Morris, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage until her passing. Together, they raised two daughters, Debra M. Baker (Michael Baker) and Lisa M. Harrison (Stephen Harrison), who remember their father as a beacon of love and guidance. James was predeceased by his son Robin Scott Morris, who past at the young age of 16, however he never let his memory fade.
A man of many talents, Jim owned and operated J&J Upholstery for 40 years, pouring his craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail into every piece he restored. His work was not just a job but a testament to his dedication and the pride he took in serving his community. Jim's voice was a familiar and cherished presence in the choir at Grove Covenant Presbyterian Church, where he also shared his faith and friendship. His commitment to fellowship and community service was further exemplified by his active membership in the Free Masons.
Jim's interests were as rich and varied as his character. He found solace in the pages of a good book, joy in the laughter around a campfire, and beauty through the lens of his camera. Square dancing brought a twinkle to his eye and a spring to his step, allowing him to express the vibrant spirit that he carried within him.
Described by those who knew him as loving, faith-filled, and friendly, Jim's legacy is one of unwavering kindness and open-heartedness. His grandchildren, James M. Baker (Emily Baker), Alexander R. Baker, Christopher L. Baker, Allie M. Conner, and Robin L. Conner, will carry forward the memories of their grandfather's gentle wisdom and the warmth of his embrace. His great-grandchildren, Eli and Avery Baker, will grow up hearing tales of their great-grandfather's goodness and love.
Jim's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of devotion, hard work, and joy. As we bid farewell to a man who was the embodiment of a life well-lived, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy will continue to inspire and influence generations to come. James C. Morris was a blessing to all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
