James Grady Stokes, also known as Jim or Chief, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and veteran, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on April 19, 1945, James lived a life filled with love, service, and joy.

Jim proudly served in the Navy, a commitment that not only defined his character but also underscored his dedication to his country. His time in the military instilled in him values of discipline and respect, which he carried into all aspects of his life.

Outside of his military career, James found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fisherman who loved spending serene afternoons sitting on the porch at the lake with his beloved dogs by his side. He often shared these peaceful moments with family, cherishing the time he spent with his grandchildren, Eva Ann Evans, and Landon Evans. Jim was also passionate about farming and loved driving his tractor, tending to the land he cherished.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Stokes, and his four daughters: April Rene Kirby (Michael), Jamie Ryan Evans (late husband Donald), Erin Elizabeth Barrieau (Mike), their daughter: Avery Barrieau, and Kristin Amanda Bolding (Andrew). His brothers, Don Stokes and Troy Furman Stokes, will carry on his legacy alongside his best friend, Red/Charlie.

He joins in eternity with his late siblings Libby Janes Stokes, Roy Stokes, and Tony Mack, who predeceased him.

James Grady Stokes will be remembered not only for his unwavering commitment to his family and country but also for his gentle spirit and the love he shared with those around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
