Janie Louise Reeves, 83, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away at her home at Rolling Green Village on January 1, 2026.

Born on April 28, 1942, in Greenville, Janie was raised in the community she would call home for most of her life. She was a longtime member of Edwards Road Baptist Church, where her faith was an important part of her life and reflected in the way she cared for others.

If Janie could be described in three words, they would be adventurous, spirited, and unique. She loved to travel, to dance, and to laugh — and she did all three with enthusiasm. Janie cherished lifelong friendships and maintained a strong sense of identity rooted in the place where she was born and raised. She attended her Hillcrest High School reunion in Simpsonville as recently as 2025 and had a gift for living fully and embracing joy wherever she found it.

Janie loved her country and took pride in her family’s legacy of service. She was married to Edward Lee Jones, who preceded her in death on July 26, 2013. Ed served during World War II in the Merchant Marines and retired from the United States Navy after 26 years as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. Following his military career, he retired from the Greenville County School System after 19 years and remained active in his community through volunteer work and service organizations. Together, Janie and Ed shared a life grounded in independence, service, and community.

Janie was deeply devoted to her beloved dog, Princess, who was a constant companion and source of comfort during her years with Janie.

She is survived by her sisters, Gertie Reeves Mullis (John); Peggie Reeves; and Terrie Reeves; her brother-in-law, Berlyn (BK) Sutton; as well as a number of nieces and nephews who were part of her extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, McNally Reeves and Louise Miller Reeves; her brother, Ronald Mac Reeves; and her sisters, Maxine Reeves Marshall and Dale Reeves Seabolt Sutton.

Throughout her life, Janie was surrounded by people who loved her deeply, and in her later years she was cared for with compassion, dignity, and friendship.

A time of remembrance will be held at a later date. In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Greenville County Humane Society.
