Jean Constance (Gray) Brewer

d. October 4, 2014

Jean Constance Gray Brewer, 94, passed away October 4, 2014, and joined her friends in heaven.

A longtime resident of Greenville, she was the daughter of Roland Hilton Gray, a retired Goodyear executive, and Fanny Louise Keech Gray.

Jean was born in Connecticut, but grew up in Decatur, AL.  She was a graduate of Stevens College and the University of Alabama where she won many awards for tennis.

Jean and her husband, Arthur Mann Brewer (d. 1969), lived in several cities, including Chicago and Wilmette, IL; Danville, CA; Diamond Head, Honolulu, HI; and Seattle, WA.  In 1971 she moved to Greenville, SC, to be near her parents.  Once here, Jean quickly made many dear friends.

Jean was a realtor here for many years.  She was fascinated by subjects ranging from current events to antiques.  Among Jean’s most recent activities were memberships in ACG (Americans for Constitutional Government); The Behethland Butler Chapter of the DAR; the Crescent Garden Club; the Crescent Community Club; and the Monday Book Club.

A faithful Christian, Jean was adored by family and friends for her kindness and clever sense of humor.  She is survived by her sister, Ann Gardner; her son, Galt Brewer (Gail); daughter, Linda (Rich); and three grandchildren, Theresa, Christina and Michael.

A memorial service will be held at the Greenville Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 1135 State Park Road, Greenville, SC 29609, at 3 PM on Sunday, November 16, 2014.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Open Arms Hospice at 1836 W. Georgia Road, Simpsonville, 29680.  Please put “In Memory of Jean Brewer.”
