Jeanmarie Kinsella
Darien
January 18, 1943 — September 16, 2026
Jeanmarie Kinsella Darien, age 83, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving husband, Edward; her oldest daughter, Laura; and loyal friends after a hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born on January 18, 1943, in Glen Cove, New York, Jeanmarie was the beloved daughter of John Kinsella and Catherine Hopkins. Jeanmarie attended St. Catherine’s Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, New York. After graduation, she dedicated her career as a registered nurse to the mothers in labor and delivery and the infants in the NICU. Early in her career, Jeanmarie became known for the gentle care she gave the tiniest patients, including baptizing those who were gravely ill. Jeanmarie will be most remembered for her love of her family and the pride she felt in being a grandmother. She loved going on family beach vacations, where she collected sand and seashells for home-made, keepsake lamps; and visiting her children and grandchildren in Colorado, Washington, D.C., and Charleston, South Carolina. Jeanmarie was an avid animal lover and had a history of rescuing and adopting stray cats and dogs, especially those her children brought home. Reading was her favorite pastime. She loved the outdoors and hiking in the mountains and the foothills of South and North Carolina, and later simply going for car rides brought her joy.
Above all, Jeanmarie very much cherished her family and friends. She was known to support her children during all their extracurricular activities and sports. She always had struggles watching those nail-biting moments of the games/matches. Jeanmarie and Ed hosted many holiday parties over the years that friends and neighbors would look forward to every year.
For the past several years, Jeanmarie looked forward to her twice-weekly visits to Side by Side Respite at John Knox Presbyterian Church, where she enjoyed fellowship, exercise, service projects, arts & crafts, games, and music.
Jeanmarie is survived by her husband Edward; her three children, Laura Nammo(David), Brian Darien, and Kristin Morrow (Lance); and her eight grandchildren, Brenna, Joshua, Olivia, Ciara, Sean, Zeke, Evangeline, and Hazel. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Catherine Kinsella, and her older brothers, Jack Kinsella and James Kinsella.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 2252 Woodruff Road, Simpsonville, South Carolina, with a reception to follow in the social hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Side By Side Respite(online to the “Respite Ministry” at https://johnknoxpres.org/give or by sending a check marked for “Respite Ministry” to John Knox Presbyterian Church, 35 Shannon Dr., Greenville, SC 29615) or to The Alzheimer’s Association, South Carolina Chapter(https://www.alz.org/sc).
Jeanmarie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
