Jim Malone Clardy

February 8, 1943 — May 1, 2025

Inman, SC

Jim Malone Clardy, born on February 8, 1943, in Union, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on May 1, 2025, at his daughter's house surrounded by his loving family. Jim was a cherished husband, father, brother, uncle, PaPa, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him. Jim was the loving son of the late Jamey (JC) and Sally Malone Clardy of Fountain Inn, SC, where he grew up.

After spending two years at USC Columbia, Jim dedicated his professional life to the automotive industry, where he excelled as an assistant used manager at Wakefield Automotive Buick in Spartanburg. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident to colleagues and customers alike. He was also a master NRA firearms instructor with SLED Certified. Jim's service to his country was marked by an honorable discharge from the Air Force, a period of his life he always held in high regard.

Jim's passion for the outdoors was unmistakable. An avid fisherman and hunter, he found solace and joy in the tranquility of nature. His love for the South Carolina Gamecocks was more than just a pastime; it was a way of life. Tailgating with friends and cheering on his team, he embodied the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship. Competitive dancing was another of Jim's talents, one that he pursued with the same vigor and enthusiasm as his other hobbies.

His faith played a central role in his life, and he was a devoted member of the First Baptist North Spartanburg Church. Jim's love for his community was also evident in his enjoyment of monthly dinners with his 1961 Hillcrest High School classmates, a tradition that kept old friendships alive and thriving.

Jim's family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a loving husband to Linda Stribble Clardy for 46 years, a bond that was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Though he was preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl Woodall, Jim's legacy lives on through his brother Tab Clardy (Julie) of Mauldin, SC, his brother Rick Woodall (Linda) of Greer, SC, his daughter Tonya Rushton Anderson (Jr Mergenthaler) of Inman, SC, his daughter of the heart Becky Belcher (Mark Ezell) of Campobello, SC, and his daughter Kimberly Clary Young Joli (Tom) of Springfield, Oregon. His brother-in-laws, Tommy Stribble (Ann) of Waterloo, SC, and Johnny Stribble (Brenda) of Woodruff, SC, also survive him.

Jim was a proud PaPa to Rylan Ivey, Adam Clardy, Dillion Gosnell, Chase Underwood (Michaela), Briar Underwood (Ashley Skinner), Hunter Mergenthaler, Shane Jolie, and Scott Jolie. The joy of his later years was further enriched by his great-granddaughter, Evelyn Underwood. His numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and one great-great-niece will remember him for his loving guidance and the wisdom he imparted.

Jim's friends at Edisto Beach will miss his visits, where his laughter and stories were as much a part of the landscape as the ocean itself. Those who knew Jim would describe him as loving, friendly, and intelligent—a man who brought light and life into every room he entered. He was known for his laughter and stories.

As we bid farewell to Jim Malone Clardy, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, friendship, and the pursuit of happiness. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Jim's presence will be deeply missed, but the impact of his life's journey will continue to resonate with us all.
