Listen to Obituary

Joan Rogers Turner passed away June 7, 2025. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late John Ralph Rogers and Vivian Smith Rogers. She was a graduate of Woodlawn High School Class of 1955, and in her younger years was employed by Southern Bell.

She is preceded in death by her high school sweetheart Henry Clifford "Cliff" Turner who passed away in 2019 after 63 years of marriage.

Joan is survived by her three sons. Steve Turner (Julie) Mobile, AL, David Turner (Yolanda) Olongapo Philippines, and Jonathan Turner (Jennifer) Piedmont, SC; as well as five grandchildren Rosemary Turner, Megan Basilio (Alex), Julia Fafejta (Eric), Amelia Turner, and James Turner. Grandy also had five wonderful great-grandchildren. Joan is also survived by her sister Joy Howard (Joseph) of Bradenton, Fl. She is preceded in death by her brother John R. Rogers Jr and her granddaughter Berkley Turner.

Joan or "Joan Lee" as some close family members called her was a classic southern lady, but first and foremost a dedicated loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Though originally from Birmingham she had lived in Piedmont, SC for the past 56 years. During the 1970's and 80's she was a school teacher in Anderson County District One, and additionally had her own small antique business. Finding nuggets to restore, collecting vintage items, and attending furniture auctions was a fun passion and hobby. Joan was an avid gardener and reader, especially in her later years. She was fortunate to have her son Jonathan and daughter-in-law Jennifer close by to care for her, enabling her to stay in the home she loved.

Known as Grandy as part of the Grand and Grandy team, Joan will be greatly missed by all that loved her. There is peace and comfort knowing that she is once again with her lifelong partner.

Services will be private. Donations may be sent to Shriners Hospital.
