Tim Lipsey (John Timothy Lipsey) died on Monday April 20, 2026.

Born June 2, 1953, in Newberry, SC, his family moved to Sumter when he was 3 years old. He was the son of the late Rev. Samuel T. Lipsey and the late Bettie Ethridge Lipsey. He was a lifelong Presbyterian and South Carolinian. He was an organ donor.

Tim attended Clemson University and was a stalwart Tiger fan participating in Tiger Band (clarinet), the Clemson concert band (bassoon), and the Clemson University Chorus. He was a member of Mu Beta Psi (music fraternity). He initially received a degree in math and taught math for several years in the low country. He always said he returned to Clemson to get his degree in mechanical engineering and a wife (Allison).

He worshiped at Fourth Presbyterian Church of Greenville, SC. He served in the choir and as treasurer. He was a member of Clan Dunbar and prior President of the Charleston Scottish Society. He enjoyed Scottish history and had the opportunity to see much of Scotland. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, a mentor in the Boy Scouts and was himself an Eagle Scout. He loved his pets, the outdoors and hiking.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister (Margaret E. Lipsey) and his brother (Samuel D. Lipsey).

Surviving are his wife Allison Sentelle Lipsey, his son John T. Lipsey II  (Sarah) of Pineville, NC, and his daughter Elizabeth A. Elrod (Austin) of Powdersville, SC, two amazing grandsons (Bennett Lipsey and Samuel Lipsey), a host of family members and many, many friends who were his family as well.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, May 2nd, at Forth Presbyterian Church, Greenville SC.

The family will receive family and friends following the service.

Tim supported many benevolences. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fourth Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Disaster Relief, CUTBA (Clemson University Tiger Band Association), Meals on Wheels, your local Humane Society, Sharing Hope of South Carolina or the charity of your choice.
