Johnny Mack Whitener, known affectionately as Johnny to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025, at the age of 73, in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. Born on October 23, 1951, in Walhalla, South Carolina, Johnny was a man whose life was characterized by his loving nature, kindness, and selfless spirit.

Johnny was the cherished son of the late Grover Bynum Whitener and Norma Myrtle Glazener. His life was a testament to the values instilled in him by his parents, and he carried their legacy with grace and dignity throughout his years. Johnny was predeceased by 8 of his 12 siblings with whom he shared an unbreakable bond and countless memories.

A devoted father, Johnny is survived by his loving children: Tina Rogers, Shelia Briggs and her husband Kenneth, Johnny Mark Whitener and his wife Rhonda, and Travis Whitener. His role as a parent was one he treasured deeply, and he instilled in his children the importance of family, love, and compassion. Johnny's legacy continues through his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will remember him for his playful spirit and the wisdom he imparted.

Johnny's love for the great outdoors was evident to all who knew him. He was at peace while fishing, and enjoyed the thrill of hunting, and the simple joy of a hike through nature's beauty. His passion for the outdoors extended to his home, where he took pride in maintaining a yard that was as meticulous and welcoming. Not only did Johnny enjoy the serenity of nature, but he was also a talented handyman. His love for painting and fixing things around the house was more than a hobby; it was a way for him to express his creativity and his desire to make the world around him a better place. Johnny also enjoyed wood working, he was known for his canes that he would carve from pieces of driftwood.
