Joseph Lewis Stone, known affectionately as Joe to his friends and family, passed away with his wife and daughter by his bedside, on September 23, 2025, at the age of 62. Born on October 18, 1962, in Reidsville, NC, Joe was a man whose life was marked by his adventurous spirit, his thoughtful nature, and his remarkable handiness.
Joe's journey through life was shared with his beloved wife of 42 years, Pamela Ann Stone, who stood by him through every adventure and challenge. Together, they raised a loving daughter, Kaylann McCurry, who is married to Jeff. Joe's legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Kaylee Grant, Kendal Grant, and Savannah McCurry, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride.
Joe was the brother to Donna Turner, Faye Jolley (Phil), and Sheila Barton, who will remember him for his unwavering support and the love he extended to his family. His life was enriched by the companionship of his best friends, Tony Burgess and Jerry Hendricks, with whom he shared countless memories. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Swafford and Sybil Brooks, his brother Billy Stone, and his stepfather, Charles Melton. Each of them held a special place in his heart and shaped the man he became.
Professionally, Joe was a master of many trades. He worked as a painter and mechanic, and there was no task too great or too small for his skilled hands. His colleagues and friends within the industry knew him as a reliable and dedicated worker, always ready to lend his expertise or a helping hand.
Joe's interests were as diverse as his skills. He loved spending quality time with his grandchildren, sharing with them the joys of the outdoors and the satisfaction of creating with one's hands. His passion for riding and restoring his dune buggy was well-known, as was his love for fishing and hunting. Joe found solace and pleasure in working on cars, painting, and embarking on various woodworking projects. Each hobby was a testament to his adventurous spirit and his talent for bringing beauty and function into the world.
Those who knew Joe will remember him for his thoughtful gestures, his readiness for adventure, and his handy nature. He was a man who could fix anything, build anything, and most importantly, make anyone smile. His presence was a source of comfort and inspiration, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Joseph Lewis Stone, we celebrate a life lived with passion, kindness, and a touch of that unique spark that was quintessentially Joe. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, his friends, and all the lives he touched. Joe's story is one of love, laughter, and the indelible mark he left on this world. He will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
