It is with a heavy heart and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Joshua "Josh" Barbare, a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend, whose spirited presence brought light and warmth to all who knew him. Born on August 9, 1993, in Greenville, SC, Josh's journey came full circle as he passed away in his hometown on May 6, 2025, at the age of 31.
Josh was the beloved son of Linda Barbare and the late Kenneth Barbare. He grew up alongside his devoted siblings, brother Alex Garcia and sister Kayla Hall (married to Brad Alexander) and Victoria, sharing countless adventures and forming an unbreakable bond. His family circle extended to include his caring uncles, John and Jim Barbare, James Hall, and the late Steve and Roger Barbare; his aunts, Linda Staton and the late Teresa Garrett and Renee Donald; his cherished grandmother, Betty Wilson, and the late Ruth Barbare; his adoring nephew, Brayden Gogdill; and niece, Lydia Alexander. Josh also leaves behind his dear cousins, Jacob Garrett Chanie Smith, Robbie Garner and Patrick Smith, including the late Lydia and Priscilla Donald, and a host of friends who became like family through the years.
From a young age, Josh discovered a passion for the outdoors, which led to a fulfilling career in tree climbing and tree work. His dedication and skill were evident to all who worked alongside him, and his contributions to the field were deeply valued by the community. Josh's work was more than a job; it was an extension of his love for nature and his commitment to preserving the beauty of our environment.
Beyond his professional life, Josh was a man of diverse interests and talents. His love for racing cars and motorcycles was matched only by his skill at shooting pool and his enjoyment of swimming. However, it was in the quiet moments spent reading his Bible that Josh found his greatest peace and strength. His faith was a guiding force in his life, providing him with comfort and purpose.
Josh was a man who lived life to the fullest, embracing every moment with an infectious enthusiasm that inspired others. He was loving and intelligent, with a spirit that could not be dimmed. His laughter and joyous approach to life were magnetic, drawing people to him and leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
As we say goodbye to Josh, we reflect on a life that, though too brief, was lived with an abundance of love and an unwavering zest for adventure. His memory will live on in the stories we share, the laughter we remember, and the love he so freely gave. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the indelible mark he left on our hearts and the world around him.
Josh's life will be honored and remembered in a private ceremony, where his family and close friends will gather to pay tribute to a life well-lived and a man deeply loved. In his memory, we will hold close the values he embodied—love, intelligence, and an indomitable spirit—and strive to live as fully and passionately as he did.
Joshua Barbare's legacy is not in the years he lived, but in the lives he touched, the trees he climbed, and the paths he blazed. He will be profoundly missed, yet forever cherished in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, Josh; your spirit soars high among the treetops you loved so much.
