Listen to Obituary

Joshua Murray Rush, 30, went to be with his Savior on Saturday, July 19, 2025, after being diagnosed with NUT Carcinoma cancer seven months earlier. He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church of Greenville, SC. Josh was born on May 21, 1995, in Greenville, SC, to Jeff and Becky Rush. He graduated high school as a homeschool student in 2013. He received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Bob Jones University in 2017. After college he began employment at Itron Inc., in West Union, SC, as a quality engineer. For the past seven years Josh loved his work there and thoroughly enjoyed his relationship to so many kind, generous coworkers. In 2018 he married his beloved sweetheart Anna Elizabeth Barker of Kingsport, TN. During Josh and Anna’s seven years of marriage, the Lord blessed them with two children: Caleb (5 years old) and Libby (2 years old). Josh enjoyed running with his cross-country team in college, and he delighted in marathon training with his dear “running buddies” whose friendships he cherished. Josh enjoyed additional athletic pursuits and the outdoors, especially his annual hunting trips with family and friends in Pennsylvania. But the primary loves of Josh’s life were: 1) his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, 2) his precious wife and children, and 3) his service to many individuals through his church. Josh and Anna have served faithfully together by helping in the youth group, teaching teen Sunday School and children’s church, and serving in FrontLine Bible club ministry. Josh was ordained a deacon at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in 2024.

Josh received godly, wise counsel from a dear saint who on his deathbed told Josh and his brothers: “Just Stick with It.” Josh found this motto effective in many venues of life which the Lord placed in Josh’s stewardship. But this exhortation to faithfulness became a vital necessity for Josh’s seven month journey with cancer. The Lord gave him a platform to testify of his Savior’s saving and sustaining grace through treatments, pain, and sorrow. Josh always trusted his loving Father, though the path He chose for Josh was challenging. He impacted many through his life and now his death as he laid up for himself eternal treasure in heaven.

Josh is survived by his devoted wife Anna, his son Caleb, his daughter Libby; his parents Jeff and Becky Rush, his sister Ashley Rush, his brothers Jason Rush (Emily), Jared Rush (Meg), and Jesse Rush (Rebecca); his maternal grandmother, Marianne Becker of Taylors, SC; his paternal grandparents, Duane and Sally Rush of Greenville, SC. He was a loving uncle to two nieces and two nephews: Amy, Chelsea, Graham, and Eric. He is also survived by the Barker family: Matt and Lori, Rebecca, and Timothy (Ashton).

A memorial service is scheduled for noon, Saturday, July 26, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 115 Cedar Lane Road, Greenville, SC, 29601. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at the church. The interment will follow at the Coleman Memorial Cemetery in Travelers Rest, SC.
