J.Q. King peacefully departed this life on July 27, 2026, at the age of 89.
Born on February 9, 1937, J.Q. King lived a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. He was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and cherished friend whose kindness and generosity touched everyone he encountered. Known for his warm heart, infectious sense of humor, and selfless spirit, J.Q. never met a stranger and always found a way to make others smile.
For 30 years, J.Q. faithfully worked at Milliken, where he earned the respect of his coworkers through his dedication, dependability, and strong work ethic. He took great pride in providing for his family and living a life of honesty, integrity, and service.
Family was the center of J.Q.’s life. He treasured every moment spent with his loved ones and leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, wisdom, and unwavering devotion that will continue to inspire future generations.
J.Q. was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Neola King; his parents, Julia King and Broadus King; his son, Samuel Brooks; his sister, Betty Bruce; and his brother-in-law, Woodrow Bruce.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving daughters, Rebekah King, Francine Brooks, Wonder Smith, and Mary Brooks; his daughter-in-law, Joann Brooks, widow of his late son, Samuel Brooks; his son-in-law, Andre Smith, husband of Wonder Smith; a host of beloved grandchildren; a host of cherished great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever blessed by his love, guidance, and compassion.
A memorial service celebrating the life of J.Q. King will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.at the Cremation Society of South Carolina – Westville Funerals (Operations Center), 6010 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC 29611. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance as they celebrate a life well lived and a man who was deeply loved.
Although our hearts are saddened by his passing, we find comfort in knowing that J.Q.’s legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched. His love, laughter, wisdom, and gentle spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
