Judy Brown Stenhouse, 78, passed away peacefully at home on July 1, 2025, in Greer, South Carolina, surrounded by her loving children.
Born in Columbia, SC, to Velve Gibson, Judy spent her early summers working on her uncle’s tobacco farm — where she developed a deep appreciation for nature and gardening. That passion grew into a lifelong commitment; she later became a Master Gardener and was admired for the lush, vibrant backyards she created and nurtured.
Judy began her professional life as a talented cosmetologist, winning hair design contests for her innovative styles. Her career evolved over the years, and she eventually found success as a recruiter in the internet industry — always proving that she could master anything she set her mind to.
A true animal lover, Judy was known as a “dog whisperer” and became a beloved pioneer in the nosework community, earning the admiration of dog enthusiasts across the SE. She also championed the preservation of monarch butterflies, encouraging others to plant milkweed and protect the endangered species she loved so dearly.
She is survived by her devoted children, Bret Stenhouse and Molly Stenhouse, who were by her side in her final moments, along with her son-in-law, Nedim Kilic.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Judy’s honor to their chosen pet charity — a tribute to her lifelong love for animals and her generous heart.
