Kent Steven
Evans
November 8, 1946 – May 2, 2026
Kent Steven Evans, age 79, of Greenville, South Carolina, formerly of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on May 2, 2026, and entered his heavenly home. A devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather, Kent lived a life marked by faith, service, and deep love for his family.
Born on November 8, 1946, in Battle Creek, Michigan, Kent was the son of William O. Evans and Marion E. (Erickson) Evans. He graduated from Kellogg Agricultural (Gull Lake) High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army. Following his military service, Kent earned his degree from Western Michigan University.
Kent dedicated his professional life to the field of laboratory science. He served as Director of Laboratories at Lakeview General Hospital until its closing in 1984. He later worked as a supervisor in the quality control laboratory at Post Cereals and concluded his career at Pfizer in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he worked in the quality control fine chemical laboratory until his retirement.
Beyond his career, Kent found great joy and pride in tending to his lawn and gardens, and especially in his woodworking shop. A gifted craftsman, he spent countless hours creating beautiful, handcrafted furniture and cabinetry that will be treasured for generations. In retirement, Kent generously gave his time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, God’s Kitchen, and The Share Center, reflecting his heart for serving others. Kent was a recipient of The President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2018.
Kent was a faithful member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church for 52 years where he served in various capacities within his church community before relocating to Greenville. He also held a special affection for animals and cherished the companionship of his pets.
Above all, Kent’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 58 years, Janet (Rice) Evans; his sons, Shawn Evans (Susan) of Greenville, South Carolina, and Brian Evans of Battle Creek, Michigan; and his cherished grandchildren, Connor, Delaney, Sophia, and Alexandra. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Pauline Evans; brother-in-law, Ronald (Bonnie) Rice; and several nieces and nephews.
Kent was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William D. Evans; his niece, Cherie Paus Doolittle; and his nephew, Charles Paus.
Contributions in memory of Kent may be made to the Greenville Humane Society or the Rolling Green Village Chapel Fund.
