Laurie McDonald Fite, 75, of Taylors, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026. Born in Annapolis, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Heyward and Sylvia McDonald.

The oldest of three daughters, Laurie was raised and attended school in Columbia, South Carolina, graduating from A.C. Flora High School in 1968. She met her husband, Chris, while attending Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia. They married in 1970 and shared 54 years together, building a life centered on family, faith, love, and service.

Laurie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chris. She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Fite and Allison Burton (Jonathan); and her grandchildren, Christopher Russell, Jacob Russell, Peyton Burton, and Fox Burton. She is also survived by her sisters, Linda McDonald and Mary Heyward Foreman (Mark); eleven nieces and nephews; five grandnephews; and one grandniece.

A dedicated member of Lee Road United Methodist Church, Laurie found great joy and purpose in her faith and church family. She was also a lifetime member of Girl Scouts of America, reflecting her enduring commitment to guiding, encouraging, and making a difference in the lives of others.

Laurie was a dedicated member of the International Association of Insurance Professionals, where she held numerous leadership and professional development positions. She enjoyed a distinguished career in insurance and retired from the William R. Timmons Agency at Canal Insurance in Greenville, South Carolina.

Laurie had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved. She accepted everyone just as they were and lived as an example of kindness, compassion, generosity, and grace. Those who encountered Laurie were better for having known her. Her warmth, acceptance, and genuine love for others will remain a lasting part of the lives she touched.

Laurie’s greatest legacy is the love she gave so freely to her family, friends, church, and countless others. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Lee Road United Methodist Church on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Lee Road United Methodist Church.
