Lennis Dare Evans (née Cameron), age 85, of Greenville, South Carolina, was a fighter to the end. She passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Monday, July 13, 2026. While her family mourns her loss, they are grateful she is no longer suffering.

She was born on October 30, 1940, to Menton and Luverne Cameron in Dothan, Alabama. After her father returned from his service in the US Navy during WWII, the family relocated to Lakeland, Florida. Lennis graduated from Lakeland High School in 1957. In 1963 she married Charles Henry Evans. Her daughter, Lennis Doran, was born in 1971. Lennis made lifelong friends whilst enjoying life in Torrance, California. She was quite proud of her 21 years of service as a Research Analyst for Northrop (Grumman). She retired in 1999.

For many years, Lennis loved college sports and followed individual players and coaches with keen and enthusiastic interest throughout their careers. She could tell you stats, draft picks, trades, the spread, and anything else your heart desired to know, or even if you didn't want to know, you learned.

Lennis then made Greenville, South Carolina her home. She was an expert at cooking ribs on her BBQ outdoors or attempting to make the perfect pound cake. She also enjoyed driving her 1972 Buick Skylark. Her cockatiel George was spoiled rotten with millet toast and given free rein of the house until his death at 23. Lennis is survived by her daughter, Lennis Doran Carrier (Howard), her sister Hattie Jo McCarty (Jerry), her sister Eyvoughn Shane, and her chosen family Christine, Ian, Sean, and Jon Davis.

In honor of her memory, donations may be made to Boys Town or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
