Linda Carole Garner passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025, at the age of 81 in Spartanburg, SC. She was born on August 8, 1944, in Foley, AL, to Kathleen and Erle Breeden. She was a beacon of intelligence, faith, and generosity throughout her life.
Linda grew up in a home filled with love and learning, which laid the foundation for her lifelong passion for education. She pursued her academic interests with vigor, culminating in a Master's Degree from the Citadel, an accomplishment that spoke to her dedication and intellect. For many years, Linda shared her love of knowledge as a teacher, touching the lives of countless students with her wisdom and patience. Her passion for history and culture later led her to become a tour guide in Savannah, GA, where she enjoyed bringing history to life for visitors.
Linda loved to read and spend time working in her yard. She was an avid boater, and her love for the open water was a source of many cherished memories for her and her family. Linda’s deep faith was an integral part of her life, and she was very involved with her church, St. Thomas Episcopal Church, where she served and worshiped with a devoted heart.
Linda was predeceased by her husband, John Timothy “Tim” Garner, her son, John Thaddeus Garner, and her sister, Susan Breeden Verzone. She is survived by her loving family, including her son, John Theodore Garner “Tedd,” and his wife, Anne; her daughter-in-law, Tracey Garner; her grandchildren, Mason Elizabeth Garner, Katherine “Katy” Brooks Garner, Joshua Garner, and Jonathan Garner; and her brother, Larry Erle Breeden and his family.
Linda’s absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her influence will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of those she touched.
A memorial service will be held for Linda on Friday, December 19, at 11:00 am at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Savannah, Georgia. Instead of flowers, donations can be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2 St. Thomas Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406.
