Lindsay Whyte Winkler, a beacon of love and creativity, passed away on April 11, 2025, at the Simpsonville Hospice House. Born on August 8, 1952, in Elizabeth, NJ, Lindsay's life was a tapestry of devotion to her family, a passion for creativity, and an unwavering spirit of resilience.
Lindsay's early years in Elizabeth were filled with the warmth of a close-knit family, including her brother Lyell T Whyte, and her late parents, Lyell Pierce Whyte and Elizabeth Tinney Whyte. She carried the values instilled in her by her family throughout her life, spreading love and kindness wherever she went.
After receiving her degree from Columbia College, Lindsay began her career as a special education teacher, touching the lives of countless students with her patience and understanding. Her nurturing nature extended beyond the classroom, as she later became a beloved seamstress instructor at Bernina, where she shared her skills and passion for sewing, cross-stitching, and embroidery.
Lindsay's life was a testament to her strength and courage, as she was a survivor of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Her resilience in the face of adversity was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was a loving and devoted mother to her sons, Thomas O. (Rachel J.) McKeown and Hunter O. McKeown. She cherished the memories of her late son Chase O. McKeown, who predeceased her.
Her role as a grandmother was one of Lindsay's greatest joys. She adored her granddaughters, Kaylee S McKeown, Blair E McKeown, Lachlyn J McKeown, Harper J McKeown, and Eloise B McKeown, each of whom brought immense happiness and pride to her life.
Lindsay's interests and hobbies were a reflection of her vibrant spirit. She was an avid reader and enjoyed staying active with aerobics. Her mornings were often spent savoring a cup of coffee, a simple pleasure that she cherished. Lindsay's love for learning never waned, and she was always eager to acquire new knowledge and skills.
Music held a special place in Lindsay's heart, and she shared her gift as a singer with the band "One Way," where her voice resonated with the joy and passion she felt for life. Her sense of humor and creative flair were infectious, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.
An a past member of the South Carolina women's clubs, Lindsay's commitment to her community was unwavering. She was devoted to her children and family, always putting their needs above her own. Her love for her pets, especially her dog Loki, was a testament to her caring and compassionate nature.
Lindsay Whyte Winkler will be remembered as a woman who lived her life with love, humor, and creativity. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her laughter, her wisdom, and her love are indelible marks on the world, and she will be deeply missed.
