Lorretta DeArruda (née Novak), age 89, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, in Greenville, South Carolina.
Born on February 4, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late John Novak and the late Alice Novak née Casey. Lorretta lived a long and full life marked by warmth, creativity, and devotion to those around her. She was known for her loving nature, kindness, and generosity. Qualities that touched the lives of all who knew her.
Lorretta was the beloved wife of the late Richard (Dick) DeArruda. Together they shared many years of companionship and family life. She is lovingly remembered by her children: sons Michael (Leandrea), David (the late Sherry), daughter Linda Sobieski (Andrew), and stepson Jesse. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandson, Daniel Sobieski, and step-granddaughters, Regina, Melinda, and Shannon. Lorretta was preceded in death by her husband Richard (Dick) and stepsons Richard and Ronald, and by her sisters Theresa (Robert) Moore and MaryAnn (Henry) Spanski. Lorretta was an aunt and cousin to many.
Lorretta spent her career as a supervisor at Time Inc. in Chicago and later at Time Customer Service when the company relocated to Tampa. Her leadership and commitment left a lasting impression on colleagues and those who worked for her throughout the years.
A woman of many talents, Lorretta found joy in creative pursuits such as crocheting, quilting, and ceramics. These hobbies were not only a source of personal fulfillment but also a way she expressed care for others—often gifting handmade items that became treasured keepsakes.
She will be interred with her late husband at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Wreaths Across America in her memory.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
