Mark's journey began as the beloved son of Eveleen (Sergent) and John Sander, and he grew up alongside his sisters Joannie Saucier, Mary Piscatelli, and Lily "Toddy" Simon, all of whom predeceased him. His early years in Connecticut laid the foundation for a life of adventure and dedication. Mark found his lifelong partner in Amanda J. Humberd, who stood by his side as his loving wife. Together, they raised a family that included his son Ryan M. Sander from Chicago, IL, and stepdaughters Holley A. Humberd of Nantucket, MA, and Samantha N. Humberd of Carver, MA. Mark was also a cherished uncle to Evy King, Frankie Ferrugia, Libby Walton, Mary Ann Avila, and Kelly Simon, as well as to many other nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his loving and adventurous spirit.
A proud alumnus of Kansas State University, Mark earned his Bachelor's Degree before embarking on a distinguished career in the military. As a PMEL Technician (Precision Management Electronics Lab Technician), Mark's expertise and commitment to excellence were recognized through numerous accolades, including the Air Force Achievement Medal with two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, and the Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon. His dedication to the Honor Guard Team as the NCOIC, and his skills as an awards expert in marksmanship were testaments to his professionalism and dedication.
Upon retiring from the military, Mark continued to pursue his wide array of interests with the same zest he brought to his service. An aficionado of military planes, patches, and history, he could often be found immersed in the stories of past aces and battles. His love for music was eclectic and deep, spanning from the smooth crooning of Frank Sinatra to the classic rock of the 60s and 70s, including the Doobie Brothers and the sounds of old country. Mark's sense of style was unmistakable, often seen sporting a fedora and an impressive collection of watches, tattoos, and pocket knives from Smoky Mountain Knife Works.
Mark's love for life extended to the great outdoors, where he enjoyed camping and watching sports. He was a connoisseur of food and cherished the time spent with friends, sharing stories and making memories. His thoughtful and adventurous nature made him a joy to be around, and his presence at concerts and gatherings will be deeply missed.
Mark's legacy is one of love and service. He approached life with a sense of purpose and a generous heart, always ready to lend a hand or share a word of encouragement. His impact on the lives of those he touched is immeasurable, and his memory will be treasured by all who knew him.
