Martin Louis Knecht, known affectionately as Marty to his friends and family, passed away on June 5, 2025, in Greenville, South Carolina. Born on February 13, 1962, to the late Wallace and Doris Abbott Knecht, Marty's life was one marked by laughter, intelligence, and a remarkable ability to fix just about anything.
Marty's early years in Greenville laid the foundation for a life full of joy and dedication. He grew up surrounded by a loving family, including his late brother Wally Knecht and his spouse, his sister Linda Long and her spouse, his brother Harold Ray Knecht and his spouse, his sister Wanda Garrett and her spouse and sisters Cynthia Knecht Masters and Sherlon Tench.
A devoted father, Marty's legacy lives on through his children, Jessica and Zach Knecht, who he raised with the same humor and wisdom that he approached in all aspects of life. His love extended to his cherished girlfriend, Dixie Terlecki, with whom he shared many of life's greatest moments. Marty was a beloved uncle to several nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
For 30 years, Marty dedicated his career to BMW, where his sharp intellect and problem-solving skills made him a respected figure. An avid sports watcher, Marty could often be found cheering on his favorite teams, especially the Clemson Tigers, whose football games were a highlight of his autumn weekends.
Marty's love for music filled his home with melodies and his car enthusiasm was more than a hobby; it was a part of who he was. His knowledge of cars was extensive, and he took great pleasure in everything from the roar of an engine to the sleek lines of a well-designed vehicle.
Those who knew Marty will remember him as the life of the party, always ready with a joke to lighten the mood. His intelligence was evident to all who engaged in conversation with him, and his handy nature meant he was often the first person called when something needed fixing.
