Matthew Peter Donovan Sr., affectionately known as Matt, passed away on April 23, 2025, in Greenville, SC, at the age of 61. Born on February 14, 1964, in Pittsfield, MA, Matt's life was marked by his infectious humor and remarkable creativity.
Matt's early life in Pittsfield laid the foundation for his lifelong passion for art and design. He earned an Associate of Science in Advertising Design from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 1985. At 26, Matt came to know the Lord and pursued further education at Bob Jones University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design in 1996. While working on his degree, he met his wife, Jennifer, at BJU Press.
Matt's career as a graphic designer was distinguished by his ability to bring visual concepts to life, designing everything from catalogs and advertisements to bible tracts and missionary prayer cards. He later embraced the role of marketing manager, creating strategic marketing plans and materials for trade shows. A highlight of his professional life was collaborating with the team from the "Gold Rush" TV show.
Beyond his professional achievements, Matt had a love for model building, photography, watercolor painting, and drawing. He loved ice skating and enjoyed watching hockey games, football, and good movies. Art museums were often enjoyed experiences for Matt and his family, where they shared his appreciation for the arts.
Those who knew Matt will remember his quick wit, beautiful smile, and bright blue eyes. His laughter was contagious, and his presence often livened many gatherings.
Matt is survived by his wife, Jennifer (Beaman) Donovan; his children, Peter Donovan, McKenna Donovan, and Gabby Donovan; his siblings, Mark Donovan, Michelle Brown (Kevin), Michael Donovan, and Mary Lee Donovan; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent Donovan and Andree Donovan.
As we bid farewell to Matthew Peter Donovan Sr., we trust in the promise of John 3:16, that whoever believes in Jesus Christ, God's son, will not perish but have eternal life. Matt will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
