Max E Folmer, a man whose life was a masterclass in balancing creativity, intellect, and a generous heart, departed this world on May 27, 2026. Born on January 17, 1952, Max spent his 74 years making an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him—and often doing so with a guitar in hand or a witty remark up his sleeve.

Max’s professional journey was as multifaceted as his interests. After retiring from Cognis and consulting for Pulcra Chemical Company, he wasn’t one to sit idly by. He donned the mantle of lifelong learner and leader as a proud member of the graduating class of 2025 Senior Leaders class 10 Program(OLLI), an achievement that surely baffled younger generations who never knew a world without Max’s insightful flair. His dedication to the Community reflected his selfless and generous nature, channeling his time and efforts to empower community members through education and support. Making the world a better place wasn’t just a noble slogan for Max—it was his daily mission.

Beyond his career, Max’s personality sparkled with loving kindness, creative wit, and an analytical mind sharp enough to dissect geological formations or appraise antique treasures. Whether crafting wood with skilled hands, researching rare antiques to sell, or cheering at sporting and cultural events, Max embraced life with an enthusiasm that was infectious. Family and friends quickly discovered his signature move: entertaining a room full of loved ones with his guitar, effortlessly blending melody and mirth.

Max’s zest for golf and travel offered him scenic sanctuaries from his philanthropic adventures, yet he always found his greatest joy in moments shared with those closest to him. His loving wife, Rhonda Folmer; his children, Pam Jett (with Dan) and Eric Folmer (with Vicky); and his four spirited grandchildren, Robbie, Riley, Max, and Macy Jett, and his imaginary dog, Spot, were the heartbeats of his life. He also leaves behind a tapestry of family: his brother Paul Folmer (and Susan), his sisters Peggy Crane (with Bill) and Vanessa Folmer, and his brother-in-love, Bob Hysell (with Juanita). Not to be forgotten are the many beloved nieces, nephews, and the wide circle of cherished external family and friends who were touched by Max’s warmth and wisdom.

Max E Folmer’s legacy is not just the antique cars he lovingly researched, nor solely the woodwork he meticulously crafted, nor even the community courses he supported—it’s the countless lives he improved simply by being himself. In an era eager for heroes, Max showed us that sometimes heroism wears a guitar sling and a knowing smile, working quietly but profoundly to make the world a better place.
