Nace Ballew, affectionately known as Richard to his friends and family, passed away on June 16, 2025, in Spartanburg, SC, at the age of 76. Born on July 18, 1948, in Greenville, SC, Richard's life was marked by his loving nature, generosity, and gentle spirit, qualities that endeared him to all who knew him.

Richard's journey began as a young man working at Michelin, where he dedicated many years as a diligent production worker. His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his commitment to his family and the community. Richard's life was a tapestry of relationships and interests that painted a picture of a man who cherished the simple pleasures in life.

A true outdoorsman at heart, Richard's younger days were spent fishing, a pastime that brought him great joy and tranquility. His love for the natural world extended to his hobby of raising pigeons, a unique interest that showcased his nurturing side. Richard also had a passion for collecting knives, each piece in his collection telling a story of craftsmanship and history. On many an evening, he could be found immersed in the adventures of cowboys on the screen, a genre that captured his imagination and spirit of the frontier.

Richard's legacy is carried on by his loving family, including his daughter Amy Rhodes and her husband Chris, his son Frankie Ballew and his partner Kim Ledbetter, and his cherished grandchildren Amber Owenby and her husband Jesse, Chloe, Brianna Ballew and her partner Roger Moffitt, Paige Ballew and her partner Heath Bates. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Oliver Owenby, Thea Moffitt, Spencer Hoag, and Finley Bates. His sister Mary Hostetler and her husband Tilson, sister-in-law Betty, and brother Lloyd L Ballew, along with many adored nieces and nephews, will hold dear the memory of his generous spirit. His beloved ex-wife, Connie Ballew, with whom he shared many treasured moments, will forever remember the love they shared. Richard was preceded in death by his brother Billy Joe Ballew.

Richard's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the impact one person can have on the lives of many. He will be remembered not only for the love he gave but also for the strength of his character and the warmth of his presence. As we bid farewell to Richard, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life filled with love, laughter, and the grace of a gentle man who made the world a better place simply by being in it.
