Paul Steven “Steve” Harris (63) of Greenville, SC joined his beloved mama in heaven on August 30, 2025. They’re undoubtedly “riding around with the top down,” together in heaven.
Steve was born to Paul Daniel Harris and Mary Ann Harris (Gosnell) in Page, AZ while his dad worked on the Glen Canyon Dam. The family moved home to Greenville, SC when work was complete. As the middle child of three, Steve’s youth was spent in Travelers Rest at his grandad’s (O.W. Gosnell) trucking company. There he learned how to fix anything with a motor and developed a love for a career that fueled his rambling soul.
In recent years, he had conquered lymphoma and quit his job to help care for his mama at home. For the last 20 months, Steve faced metastatic throat cancer with a strength, determination, and fortitude that never wavered. His grit, humor, and refusal to give up left an impression on everyone he encountered throughout that journey.
Steve was as generous as he was hardheaded. He loved horses, meeting new people, fixing things, the open road, and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. He worked hard, played hard, and demonstrated perseverance through life’s challenges. He made friends everywhere and spoke to anyone.
Steve had the classic Harris sweet tooth for chocolate, a love of celebrations big or small, and an unwavering loyalty to his family and friends. Upbeat rock was his background soundtrack, with “Sharp Dressed Man” by ZZ Top as his favorite song—and it suited him. From the short swim trunks in the 80s/90s, to a permed mullet and trucker hat, to clean-shaven in a button-up collared shirt, he was always on point with the changing trends.
Those who knew him will remember a man who could be both tough and tender, practical and playful, with a heart that cared deeply. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the laughter he sparked, and the love he freely gave.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Harris. He is survived by his father, Paul Daniel Harris; sister, Pamela Harris; brother, R. Scott Harris; honorary sister, Trena Hartin; daughters, Ashly Harris Coggins of Greenville and Jessica Anne Kull (Ron) of Milwaukee, WI; and grandchildren: Olivia Kull, Caroline Coggins, and Phillip Kull.
A celebration of Steve’s life will take place on at his eldest daughter’s home at 5pm on Saturday, April 18, 2026. The family welcomes memories, photos, and stories to be shared in the guestbook section below.
