Peter John Hulett

Peter John Hulett, known affectionately as Pete, was born on May 29, 1947, in Schenectady, New York, and passed away on September 8, 2026, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He lived a life marked by devotion to family, steady friendship, hard work, and a generous spirit that touched everyone who knew him.

Pete was the beloved son of the late John and Helen Hulett and the oldest of 11 children. From an early age, he learned the value of responsibility, perseverance, and looking out for others. Those qualities remained with him throughout his life and became part of the way he carried himself in both his family and his community. He was a man who could be counted on, and his presence brought comfort, strength, and warmth to those around him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Hulett, whose memory remained close to his heart. He is survived by his fiancée, Lynn Kerfoot. They loved each other so and she took great care of him and brought him companionship and joy. Pete also leaves behind his sons, Shawn Hulett and his wife Penny, Chris Hulett, and Matt Hulett and his wife Melissa, as well as his daughters, Jenny Scoggins and her husband Chris, and Elizabeth Hulett. He was a proud grandfather to Kimberly, Amanda, Melissa, Megan M., Kaitlyn, McKenna, Megan J., Ashley, Chase, Justin, Jared, Jacob and Jessica and he was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren who brought him great happiness. He is also survived by his best friends, Mike and Donna Zayas, whose friendship meant so much to him over the years.

Pete devoted much of his life to honest work and service to others. He worked as an engineer, a career that reflected his practical mind and his ability to solve problems with patience and skill. Beyond his profession, he gave 17 years of service as a volunteer firefighter, answering the call to protect others with courage and commitment. He also served as a Cub Scout leader, where he helped guide and encourage young people with the same steady kindness that defined so much of his life. His dedication to service was not something he spoke of often, but it was evident in the respect he earned and the lives he influenced.

Those who knew Pete will remember him as a friendly, thoughtful, and selfless man. He had a way of making people feel welcome and at ease, and he was always willing to lend a hand when someone needed help. He approached life with humility and a strong work ethic, and he never hesitated to use his skills to assist family, friends, or neighbors. Whether he was repairing something, offering advice, or simply sharing his time, he did so with sincerity and care.

Pete had many interests that reflected both his talents and his curiosity. He enjoyed mechanics, construction, electrical work, and thrifting, and he found satisfaction in understanding how things worked and in bringing new life to old items. He appreciated the value in hard work and in finding usefulness and meaning in everyday things. These interests were more than hobbies. They were a reflection of his practical nature, his resourcefulness, and the quiet pride he took in doing things well.

Family was central to Pete’s life, and he cherished the bonds he shared with those closest to him. He valued time spent together and took pride in the accomplishments and happiness of his children and grandchildren. His loved ones will remember his steady presence, his kind heart, and the way he showed love through action more than words. His legacy lives on in the family he helped build, the friendships he nurtured, and the many lives he touched through his example.

Pete’s life was one of service, devotion, and quiet strength. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, reliability, and love that will continue to be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will remain a source of comfort and gratitude to his family and friends.
