Philip Berthiaume, affectionately known as Phil, passed away on April 24, 2026. Born on August 23, 1950, he lived a life marked by keen intellect, generosity, and deep love for those around him. As an accomplished travel writer, Phil enriched the lives of his readers by sharing the unique character and hospitality of New England’s country inns and dining experiences.

Phil’s endearing nature was best expressed through his quick wit and the soulful stories he shared. Whether recounting his travels through Europe by train or his time on the beaches of Galveston, his stories reflected a life lived with genuine curiosity and warmth. Outside of his writing, Phil was a steady presence for those who couldn't care for themselves, working for years as a caretaker for those with mental disabilities.

A devoted father and grandfather, Phil is survived by his son, Brian Berthiaume; his daughter and son-in-law, Cass and Anthony Grubb; and his beloved grandchildren, Kyle and Kinsley Grubb. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathalie and Wilfred Berthiaume, and his sister, Dolores Berthiaume, whose memories he held close.

Those who knew Phil remember him as a man of thoughtful intelligence, generous spirit, and a loving heart. His influence endures in the stories he penned and the lives he touched. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion and curiosity that continues to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
