Quata S. Battle, affectionately known as Layah to her friends and family, passed away on May 9, 2025, at the age of 40 in Anderson, South Carolina. Born on April 15, 1985, in Pinetops, North Carolina, Layah was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her. Her infectious laughter and loving nature will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all the lives she touched.
Layah was the cherished daughter of Doris Battle Banks and the late George Alfred Bridgers Jr. She grew up in a lively household with her beloved sisters Shyamala Butler (Tuarian), Charmeka Castillo (Juan), Jashanna Bynum, and Quavivious Andrews. Layah's role as a mother to her sons, Dylon Battle and Nickolas Walden, was the one she held dearest to her heart. She was also a devoted aunt to her nephew Juan Tomas Castillo and nieces Yasmyne Castillo, Brooklyn Butler, Journey Butler, Aneja Brown, and Ajena Brown, the latter of whom she loved as if she were her own daughter.
Layah's passion for helping others led her to pursue a career in nursing. She earned her associate's degree in nursing and dedicated her life to caring for others as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Her colleagues admired her for her analytical mind and her patients appreciated her faith-filled spirit and loving care.
Beyond her professional life, Layah had a green thumb and found solace in the tranquility of her garden. She was also known for her sharp wit and was often the source of laughter and joy at family gatherings. Layah's sense of humor was a gift that she generously shared, brightening the days of those around her.
Described by those who knew her as loving, faith-filled, and analytical, Layah lived a life that was full of purpose and kindness. She approached every challenge with grace and every celebration with enthusiasm. Her ability to find the silver lining in every cloud taught those around her the power of positivity.
Layah's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the enduring strength of family bonds. Her memory will be treasured and kept alive in the stories that will be passed down through generations.
