Randall Dale Abernathy, 65, of Landrum, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026.

Born in Polk County, North Carolina, on July 21, 1960, he was the beloved son of the late Eption “Fairest” Abernathy and Katie Mae (Johnson) Abernathy.

Randall is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Sheila (Lindsey) Abernathy of Landrum. He leaves behind his cherished daughter, Stephanie (Abernathy) Fancher of Landrum, and April Revan (Ryan) of Landrum, whom he lovingly chose as his own. And his precious niece, Cassidy Baxley (Matt) of Landrum, who loved him deeply and helped care for him faithfully whenever he was ill.

Randall also had four precious grandchildren—Jada and James Fancher, and Peyton and Damon Revan— and two great nephews— Hunter and River Baxley who brought him immense pride and joy.

He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Bridgeman (Randy) of Landrum, as well as many nieces and nephews who loved and adored him dearly.

In addition to his parents, Randall was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronnie Abernathy and Monte Abernathy, and his sisters, Gerlene Gosnell, Nancy Hammett, and Brenda Fowler. Though deeply missed, there is comfort in knowing he has been reunited with them in eternal peace.

Randall began his working life at just 14 years old at Joe’s Exxon in Landrum, where he spent countless days not only working hard but building some of his most cherished memories and lifelong friendships. Among those was Joey Brown, whom Randall loved as a brother. He often reminisced about those early days, sharing stories filled with laughter and good times at the service station.

Randall was feisty, strong-willed, and quick-witted, with a one-of-a-kind sense of humor that could bring a smile to anyone’s face. He was a “think-on-your-feet” kind of man who lived life unapologetically on his own terms. His greatest joy came from time spent with his loved ones and the children he embraced as his own, helping guide and shape them into who they are today. And of course, his faithful and beloved Yorkie, Jake, held a special place in his heart—a loyal companion who loved him beyond measure.

He is everywhere and nowhere all at once—a constant thought, a lingering ache, a quiet whisper in the background of our lives. He is stitched into every corner of our minds and forever held in our hearts. He will always be deeply missed and endlessly loved.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on April 11, 2026, at Glassy Mountain Baptist Church (936 N. Glassy Mountain Rd., Landrum, SC 29356). Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., followed by the service.
