Richard Berry Sams, known affectionately as Ricky to his friends and family, passed away on October 20, 2025, in Greenville, SC, at the age of 66. Born on August 26, 1959, in Morristown, TN, Ricky was a man whose laughter and wisdom filled the lives of all who knew him.
Ricky spent his professional life as a skilled heavy equipment operator, a role in which he took great pride and joy. Outside of work, Ricky had a passion for the outdoors. An artist at heart, he found solace in drawing and music, often sharing his creations with those around him. His artistic talents were also manifested in the custom motorcycle he built. Ricky's love for fishing was more than a hobby; it was a reflection of his appreciation for nature and the simple joys of life.
Ricky is survived by his brother, Tim Sams; sister, Denise Sams; and his daughters, Lindsay and Hailee Sams. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Sams, and mother, Mary Sue Sams.
Ricky's life was a tapestry of hard work, creativity, and love. His legacy is one of laughter, artistry, and an unshakeable zest for life. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take comfort in the countless memories and the indelible mark he has left on our hearts.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 2PM, at the Cremation Society of SC - Westville Funerals, 6010 White Horse Rd, Greenville, SC 29611.
