Robert H. Williamson, known as "Blackie" by his friends and family, passed away on May 24, 2025, at the age of 91 in Greenville, SC. Born on May 18, 1934, in Dillon, SC, to the late Estelle Smith Williamson and Reverend Charlie Williamson, Blackie was a man of remarkable spirit and vigor who lived a full and adventurous life.
Blackie's journey began as a young man when he joined the US Navy at 19 years of age(20 year career) and married his sweetheart, Jackie Davis(70 year marriage). He was very proud of both accomplishments. Most of his service years were spent stationed in Key West, FL, Charleston, SC, and Norfolk, VA. The majority of those years were spent on Navy submarines: USS Threadfin SS#410, USS Amberjack SS#522, USS Chivo SS#341. Blackie also served for an 18 month deployment to Vietnam patrolling the Saigon River. His final Navy assignment was the Naval Reserve Training Center here in Greenville, SC. Blackie also spent 45 years in the auto industry. His work ethic and expertise made him a respected figure in the car business with his colleagues.
A man of diverse interests, Blackie's love of the outdoors (especially the mountains of Tennessee), RV camping, farming, moving dirt around in his garden and boating reflected his love for nature. He also loved "gadgets" like computers, cameras, and various electronics. His love for trucks, cars, NASCAR and sports was more than a hobby; it's what he lived and breathed.
Blackie's intelligence and interest in all things mechanical made him an excellent source of help when a machine of any kind was not working. He had an amazing engineering mind. Blackie was a salesman through and through with the gift to understand people. He had a love of sales, for his customers, and for selling high-quality automobiles. He worked hard to provide well for his wife and girls.
He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Jackie Williamson; his daughters, Angela Martin(partner Charlie), Andrea Pisarcik(John), and Lisa Segars(partner Mike) and his grandsons, Shane Collins(Phallon) and Ben Martin(partner Ellen). Blackie was also a proud great- grandfather to Sheckler Collins, Natas Collins, and Tommy Martin. He was predeceased by his sisters, Ann Littrell and Elizabeth Herring.
Blackie was a somewhat quiet, reserved man with many scars and challenges as a result of wars of various kinds. But those who had the privilege to know him, knew they had met a special soul. He will be remembered as a man who lived life to the fullest, who loved his family and who left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. His adventurous spirit and intelligent mind made him an unforgettable character.
As we bid farewell to Robert "Blackie" H. Williamson, we celebrate his life, a journey well- traveled, and a man well-loved.
He will be deeply missed
