Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Roger Wayne Weeks, 75, of Travelers Rest, passed away peacefully in his home on September 7, 2026. A Greenville native, Roger was born on April 25, 1951, the middle son of the late Gloria Boling and Arthur Weeks.

In April of 1971, Roger married his high-school sweetheart, Sherri. Together, they shared a beautiful 55-year love story and legacy. Roger was a rugged, soft-hearted patriarch. He was a private man, but to those who knew him, he was a caring soul. He loved his wife deeply and was always a perfect gentleman to his girls. He possessed the strongest, roughest hands—hands that spent a lifetime working, operating heavy equipment, and owning multiple local businesses, including restaurants, building in-ground pools, an ice cream truck company, and maintenance work.

Beneath that strong exterior was a soft heart. He spent his life looking out for his family, protecting and loving them.

Roger was a proud veteran, attending Parker High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1970 through the buddy plan with close friend Larry Hensley, during the height of the Vietnam War. A member of the 82nd Airborne, he trained at Fort Gordon and Fort Benning, completing over 50 jumps to earn his paratrooper status. He then transferred to Fort Bragg, where he served until May of 1973. Throughout his life, Roger often spoke of the casualties of that war, carrying a deep sorrow for the many friends and fellow soldiers he knew who lost their lives.

In his civilian life, Roger was skilled in many vocations.

He and Sherri loved to travel together, especially enjoying their trips to Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherri; his daughter, Sommer Tolley (Ronnie), and his daughter, Sunny Sorgee, his brother, Robin; and his 4 grandchildren: Savannah Brooks (Kameron), Sunshine Sorgee (Elias), Trinity Norris, and Tyler Norris (Hayley). He was the proud great-grandfather to Elaina, Samuel, Scarlett, Christian, and Kashton, with another great-grandson on the way.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Randall Weeks, and his parents.

Roger will be missed more than words can convey.

A funeral service to celebrate Roger’s life and legacy will be held on Monday, September 14, at 11:30 AM at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 115 Cedar Lane Road, Greenville, SC.

A visitation will immediately follow the service. A private interment for the family will be held Tuesday, September 15th. In lieu of flowers, we would ask that you donate to the charity of your choice in his honor.
