Ronald Paul Nessler, known affectionately to many as Captain Ron, passed away on May 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy marked by devotion, intelligence, and spirited engagement with life. Born on October 17, 1943, he graced the world for 82 years, during which he distinguished himself through dedicated service, personal passion, and a profound love for his family.
Ron was a man of many talents and accomplishments. His career was marked by his tenure as a senior Panama Canal pilot, during which his expertise and steady hand played a vital role in a globally significant operation. Beyond piloting, he served the Canal community with distinction as a police officer. A Vietnam War veteran, Ron served in the United States Air Force and later in the Army Reserve, exemplifying a commitment and courage that extended far beyond his civilian career. In his maritime pursuits, he was also recognized as a senior Panama Canal tugboat captain, a testament to his skill, leadership, and dedication on the water. Alongside his professional endeavors, Ron nurtured a heartfelt passion for collecting antique and classic cars and motorcycles, a hobby that brought him great joy and connected him with a community of fellow enthusiasts. If he wasn’t home with his family, he was at his building with his friends who shared the same passion for cars and motorcycles as he did.
Ron was known for his loving and intelligent nature, as well as the spirited personality that touched everyone who knew him. His presence was a steady beacon of warmth, wisdom, and strength, qualities that endeared him to friends and family alike.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Beard Nessler, who stood beside him with unwavering love and support. He leaves behind two beloved daughters, Ronda Nessler and Veronica Nessler Roberts, as well as his cherished grandsons, Gavin Roberts and Greyson Roberts, who proudly carry forward his legacy. Ron’s family circle also includes his brother, Lawrence Maskel, and sister, Elizabeth Gray, each of whom shared in the joys and challenges of his remarkable life.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia Hoppi Nessler and Gerald Nessler.
As we reflect on Captain Ron’s life, we honor a man who served his country with valor, mastered his profession with exceptional skill, and lived with a passion that inspired those around him. His legacy endures in the hearts of his family and friends, and in the many lives enriched by his presence. Ronald Paul Nessler will be remembered with profound respect, admiration, and affection.
