Listen to Obituary

Ronald Patrick Sloan, affectionately known as Ronnie to his friends and family, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, October 7, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Greenville, SC, but residing in Travelers Rest, Ronnie was a beacon of joy and laughter, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Carole Sloan, who was his partner in every adventure, especially their shared passion for exploring the natural beauty of South Carolina's waterfalls and state parks.

Ronnie was the beloved son of the late Norman and Lila Caldwell Sloan. He was a caring and supportive father to his daughter, Angela Sloan (Scott), and his son Ronald Travis Sloan (Tonya). His presence as a grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and brother will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Daniel Thurston, Kelsey Thurston, Kimberly Phillips (Zac), great-grandchildren Mila, Chelle, and Chiska Perez Merchant and Cooper Schulenburg, and a special great niece Jocelyn Schroeder as well as numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom was his favorite. Ronnie also leaves behind his brothers, Phillip Sloan (Norma) and Mike Sloan (Ann), who will remember him for his generous spirit and infectious humor.

He is predeceased by his parents, by his brothers Fred Sloan (EmmaLou), James Sloan, Randy Sloan; sisters, Jean Pressley (Harold), and Sylvia "Susie" Edwards (DeWitt).

Throughout his career with the Greenville County School System as a painter, Ronnie touched the lives of many with his hard work and dedication. His colleagues knew him as a man who could always be counted on to brighten the day with his funny quips and generous nature.

Ronnie's love for the outdoors was evident to all who knew him. He and Carole made it their mission to visit every state park in South Carolina, a testament to their love for adventure and each other. His enthusiasm for hiking and exploring waterfalls was matched only by his love for his family and working in his yard.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing Ronnie will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His ability to bring laughter to any situation, his generous spirit when it came to helping others, and his unwavering commitment to his family are the hallmarks of a life well-lived.

Ronnie's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his spirit will continue to inspire us. As we reflect on his life, we are reminded to cherish the simple pleasures, like a walk in the park, a drive in the mountains, or a game of cards with friends. Ronnie's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the joy of life's journey. He will be profoundly missed, but the memories he created will be treasured forever.

The family is at the home.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
